About Me

Hello,

My name is Felicity Dyck, a Registered Social Worker. I have three years of experience working as a social worker in various capacities.

While I have experience in various social work roles, I am most passionate about supporting children and families – especially those with anxiety, depression, and autism. Whether your child is experiencing challenges with school resistance, bedtime anxiety, or sibling relationships, I’m here to help!

A large part of what I do with children and youth includes play, art, and understanding the body to uncover your child’s emotions, thoughts, and experiences. While traditional talk therapy can be beneficial for many adults, it can be challenging for children and youth to articulate their thoughts, emotions and experiences into words and sentences. Therefore using more play-based modalities allows children to connect with their emotional experience in a safe environment. Together, in the therapeutic space, we will establish coping skills, practice communication and create a plan that supports your child and family.

My approach to Therapy

My personal mental health journey has largely influenced my own approach to social work sessions, often operating from a strengths-based, compassion forward approach.

As a social worker, I believe that it is my job to support you and your family through whatever life circumstances you are experiencing. My goal is to create a safe space for us to connect, explore emotional experiences, navigate challenging relationships, and provide you and your child with the tools to feel confident walking through life. I value honesty, transparency, and authenticity in the therapeutic space, focusing on a therapeutic relationship built on trust and understanding.

My core therapeutic approach stems from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which seeks to support goals through learning to accept uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, while making steps towards the parts of oneself that are important. In addition to ACT, I utilize play, art, and somatic therapy to better understand the lived experiences of children; as well as practicing alternative ways of reacting to their environments.

As a family social worker, I believe that therapy is a collaborative approach that requires active participation from children/youth, caregivers, and the social worker. Your role as the caregiver/parent is vital to the success of your child’s therapeutic journey!

If you’re curious to learn more about my approach to therapy, I’d encourage you to set up a discovery call so we can discuss your hopes for social work sessions!
